History: The name "Penny Farthing" refers to the size of the wheels on the high wheeled bicycles made popular back in the 1880's, comparing the large "penny" (front wheel) to the small coinage known as a "Farthing" (rear wheel). This early version of the bicycle had no gears or chains and the pedals were attached directly to the front wheel. Each turn of the pedal rotated the wheel, the larger the wheel the faster and farther the bicycle could go. This bicycle, also known a "highwheeler", "highboy", and "ordinary" bicycle was the predecessor of the "safety" bicycle, similar to what we ride today.

"Penny Farthing" Wall Hanging: Bring some of the charm of years past to your home or office with our rendition of a Penny Farthing Highwheeler Bicycle. Our original Penny Farthing Wall Hanging comes in a black finish and like the actual bike is substantial in size measuring 28" tall x 31" wide and weighing 10.5lbs. The wall hanging features two welded rings so it can easily be attached to any wall. Whether you are a bicycle enthusiast, history buff or just looking for something a little out of the ordinary this piece is sure to please (see photo above).

"Penny Farthing" 3-D Wall Hanging: Our newest addition to our Penny Farthing line is a 3-D Wall Hanging featuring 3 sizes of Penny Farthings that can be hung in a variety of ways using 1" and 2" spacers to achieve the three dimensional look. The Large Penny Farthing measures 35" wide x 33 1/2" tall. The Medium Penny Farthing measures 27" wide x 24" tall. The Small Penny Farthing measures 19' wide x 17" tall. Note that these bikes face to the right when hung. All three bikes are available in a textured black powder coated finish, and can be purchased as a group or individually for added versatility. We have the right size "High Wheeler" for any room! (see photos above)

"Penny Farthing Bicycle" Wine Rack: This wine rack is anything but "ordinary" as they often call the Penny Farthing bicycles from the late 1800's in Britain. The freestanding "high wheeled" design can display up to 12 full size bottles of your favorite wine and stands 26" tall x 32" accross x 8" wide. It comes with a textured black finish and weighs 6 lbs. Penny Farthings are still alive and well thanks to some very special clubs and craftsman around the world, now you too can share in a bit of bicycle history by owning your own "highwheeler" wine rack (see photo above).

"Tricycle" Table Decoration: The Adult Tricycle had it's debut during the same period as the Penny Farthing so women of that era could experience the joy of the ride in their long skirts. The high wheel design was soon discarded and style and patrons have changed over the years but the tricycle lives on. Our wrought iron Tricycle Decoration is small in size (8 1/2" tall x 8" long x 4 1/2" wide) but big on appeal, making it a great accent piece for your home (see photo above).

Links: Whatever name you choose to use Penny Farthings, Highwheelers, Highboys, Ordinary's or High Wheeled Bicycles their legacy is alive and well thanks to numerous groups, craftsman, museums and organizations around the world. We encourage you to take a ride back through time and visit some bicycling links that we hope will intrigue and delight your spirit as they have ours.
